Copeley Hill residential project

We are proud to share the completion of our latest residential project in Copeley Hill, Birmingham—an end-terrace townhouse that reflects thoughtful design and subtle transformation. This project demonstrates how modest interventions can significantly elevate the quality and experience of a home.
A key feature of the renovation was the adaptive reuse of an existing rear garden shed. Rather than demolishing this underused structure, we saw an opportunity to give it new purpose. The shed was sensitively converted into a guest bathroom, creating a secluded and practical amenity that adds value to the home without compromising outdoor space. The new bathroom is fully insulated and finished with modern fixtures, while maintaining the original footprint of the structure to preserve the garden’s character.
On the upper floor, we focused on improving natural light and spatial clarity. Two adjacent storage closets were removed and reconfigured into a double-height open atrium. This architectural move brings daylight deep into the heart of the home’s circulation space, transforming a once-enclosed stairwell into a bright, breathable core. A new rooflight above the atrium further enhances this effect, creating visual connectivity between floors and offering changing light throughout the day.
The overall scheme is driven by sustainability and simplicity. By working with the existing building fabric and focusing on strategic upgrades, the design minimised construction waste while maximising spatial quality. Materials were chosen for their durability and warmth, complementing the townhouse’s existing charm.
This project at Copeley Hill is a testament to how small-scale residential improvements—when approached with care—can result in meaningful architectural enhancements. It’s a home now better equipped for modern living, while retaining its original character and charm.
